About Rachel

Rachel is a writer, photographer and music enthusiast who feels silly writing in the third-person perspective but will do so for professional biographical purposes. She currently freelances for Alternative Press and previously contributed to PPcorn (formerly FDRMX) and the BuzzFeed community.

Rachel graduated from Kent State University with a magazine journalism major and photojournalism minor. In her time there, she was involved with The Burr, the campus’ general-interest magazine, for five semesters. She was a copy editor, blogger and wrote for the print edition where she won an AEJMC award for her first-person article on a mysterious migraine. Her blog explored her interest in pop culture, covering everything from social media trends to movies, music and television.

Music plays a large part in Rachel's interests, and there is rarely a moment it isn't emitting from her speakers. She was an editorial intern at Alternative Press the summer before her senior year at Kent State where she then took on the role of general manager of Black Squirrel Radio. She was involved with the station for eight semesters in various positions including programming, marketing and music. She was also a DJ who focused on the undiscovered and unsigned talent of both the local scene and the nation’s.

Nowadays, she enjoys looking for her next favorite band from the back of venues, watching movies–particularly those of the horror genre–with her cat and chasing after her next big adventure.
